J. Marabel’s 14 Goals Put Sarmiento’s Home Defence Under Focus

Can Sarmiento’s home defence contain River’s attack?

Sarmiento Junin’s home record gives this Liga Profesional Argentina meeting its clearest pre-match question. They have won 8, drawn 2 and lost 3 of their home games this season, conceding 11 goals and keeping 7 clean sheets. River Plate’s away record is also strong: 6 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses, with 13 goals scored and 9 conceded. Their away matches have produced 4 clean sheets.

Different Clausura positions, contrasting season context

The provisional Clausura - Group B table has Sarmiento #4 on 19 points from 11 games, while River Plate are #9 on 16 points from 11 games. The Apertura - Group B record was reversed: River finished #2 on 29 points from 16 games, with Sarmiento #11 on 19. River are 10 points ahead of Sarmiento in that competition’s standings, while Independ. Rivadavia lead the table on 34 points.

Marabel carries Sarmiento’s leading threat

J. Marabel has 14 goals and 4 assists in 27 appearances for Sarmiento, making him the most productive named scorer in the supplied data. T. Galván has 6 goals and 3 assists in 30 appearances for River. Sarmiento most commonly used a 4-4-2, selected in 17 matches; River’s most-used shape was 4-2-3-1, also selected in 17 matches. Both teams enter after wins, but that is only one recent result in each sequence.

At Estadio Eva Peron on Wednesday, October 14, the key question is concrete: can Sarmiento’s home clean-sheet record withstand River’s away scoring threat while Marabel leads the hosts forward?
