Huracan’s home defence faces Gimnasia L.P.’s away threat

A level Clausura table, but contrasting venue records

Huracan and Gimnasia L.P. meet at Estadio Tomas Adolfo Duco on Thursday, October 15, in Clausura - 13 of the Liga Profesional Argentina. The provisional Clausura - Group B standings place Huracan #5 and Gimnasia L.P. #6, with both teams on 19 points from 12 games. The immediate question is whether Huracan’s home strength can outweigh Gimnasia’s established away threat.

Huracan’s home record this season is 7 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses. The hosts have scored 16 home goals, averaging 1.10 per home game, and conceded 10, averaging 0.70, while keeping 7 home clean sheets. Gimnasia’s away record is 7 wins, 3 draws and 6 losses. They have scored 16 away goals, averaging 1.00 per away game, but conceded 21, averaging 1.30, with 3 away clean sheets. That points to a clear test of Huracan’s defensive consistency against Gimnasia’s ability to score on the road.

J. Caicedo carries Huracan’s leading listed goal threat with 13 goals in 26 appearances. Gimnasia can turn to M. Torres, who has 9 goals and 2 assists in 24 appearances, while A. Auzmendi has 7 goals and 3 assists in 30 appearances. Both teams most often use a 4-2-3-1, selected in 15 Huracan matches and 14 Gimnasia matches, though that alone does not define their approach.

At kickoff, can Huracan’s home defence limit Torres and Auzmendi while Caicedo exploits Gimnasia’s record of conceding 21 away goals?
