Juan Rodriguez’s two goals cannot secure Atletico Tucuman victory

Juan Rodriguez puts Atletico Tucuman in front, but Banfield recover

Juan Rodriguez scored twice in three minutes as Atletico Tucuman led 2-0, yet Banfield rallied for a 2-2 draw in Liga Profesional Argentina’s Clausura - 16. The result answers the central question of Rodriguez’s contribution: his two goals gave Atletico a strong advantage, but did not secure victory at Estadio Florencio Sola.

Rodriguez opened the scoring in the 15th minute, making it 0-1 after an assist from Lautaro Godoy. The same combination produced Atletico’s second goal in the 18th minute, with Rodriguez again finishing from Godoy’s service to make it 0-2. Juan Infante was booked in the 43rd minute, while Banfield’s Tomas Adoryan also received a yellow card.

Banfield changed three players at half-time, introducing Lautaro Villegas, Alexander Machado and Santiago López García. Machado reduced the deficit in the 58th minute, assisted by Adoryan, before Lautaro Martín Gómez completed the comeback in the 78th minute to make it 2-2. Santiago Daniele was booked in the 61st minute.

The statistics suggest Banfield had the stronger overall attacking platform despite the early deficit. They held 60% possession, completed 327 accurate passes and attempted 14 shots to Atletico’s 8. Banfield also led shots inside the box 7-4, although both teams recorded 4 shots on goal. Atletico’s two-goal lead therefore stood against the balance of play.

Godoy was the match’s standout performer by rating, earning 8.6 after 89 minutes with two assists and five key passes. In the Clausura - Group B, Atletico moved to 18 points and were provisionally #10, while Banfield reached 15 points; their position depends on tie-breakers. Atletico are now 3 points ahead of Banfield. Both entered the match after a loss in their most recent listed form.
