Riestra 1-1 Velez: González goal and own goal share the points

Deportivo Riestra and Velez Sarsfield drew 1-1 at Estadio Guillermo Laza on Saturday, August 29, with the home side taking the lead through Tomás González before Facundo Miño’s 76th-minute own goal restored parity. The result was a draw in Liga Profesional Argentina’s Clausura - 7 round, despite Velez controlling most of the match.

González puts Riestra ahead

Riestra made a change at half-time, sending Antony Alonso off and introducing González, and the substitution produced an immediate impact. In the 54th minute, González opened the scoring with a normal goal assisted by Mariano Bracamonte. His contribution stood out in a brief but influential 45-minute appearance, which also included a shot on target and a key pass.

Velez responded with sustained pressure, but the equaliser came through an own goal in the 76th minute. Miño was credited with the unfortunate touch, allowing Velez to draw level and earn a point from a game in which the visitors had dominated the ball. Neither side found a second goal before full time.

Velez control possession but cannot win

The statistics underline the contrast between the scoreline and the overall balance of play. Velez held 76% possession and completed 541 accurate passes from 638 total, compared with Riestra’s 104 accurate passes from 199. The visitors also led 13-7 in total shots, 6-3 for shots inside the box, and 6-2 in corners.

Riestra were more efficient with their limited opportunities, registering three shots on goal to Velez’s five. The home side’s goalkeeper, I. Arce, made five saves, while Velez’s goalkeeper made two. Riestra’s compact 5-3-2, coached by Guillermo Duró, absorbed long spells without the ball, whereas Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s 4-2-3-1 generated more possession and attempts but not a winning goal.

Disciplinary moment shapes the second half

The match also featured a major incident involving the Velez bench. Barros Schelotto was sent off in the 56th minute, shortly after González had put Riestra ahead. Lucas Robertone had already been booked in the first half, while Facundo Miño and Nicolas Benegas were cautioned for Riestra in the 31st and 67th minutes respectively. The contest finished with both teams listed without a red card in the match statistics.

Points added at opposite ends of the round

Riestra entered the fixture 10th in Clausura Group A with seven points from six matches. The draw lifts their total to eight points after seven games. Velez began third with 12 points from six and remain unbeaten in the listed Clausura record; the draw takes them to 13 points. Arce was another key performer for Riestra with five saves, while R. Aliendro led Velez’s ratings at 7.6 after completing the full match and making three tackles. González, however, was the standout overall with an 8.2 rating and the opening goal.
