Brian White’s two goals power Vancouver Whitecaps to 5-1 win over Seattle

White’s early impact sets Vancouver on course

Brian White scored twice as Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Seattle Sounders 5-1 at BC Place in Major League Soccer’s Regular Season - 33. His goals gave Vancouver a decisive advantage in a match they led 3-0 at half-time.

White opened the scoring in the 1st minute, making it 1-0 with an assist from Bruno Caicedo. Ryan Gauld doubled Vancouver’s lead in the 9th minute, assisted by Édier Ocampo, before Mathías Laborda made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute, with Gauld providing the assist.

White struck again in the 53rd minute, assisted by Caicedo, for a 4-0 scoreline. Seattle responded through Jordan Morris in the 62nd minute, with Albert Rusnák assisting, but Vancouver restored its four-goal advantage when Aleksa Cvetkovic scored in the 70th minute. Cheikh Sabaly supplied the assist for the 5-1 final score.

Seattle had possession, but Vancouver created more

Seattle held 52% possession and completed 518 accurate passes compared with Vancouver’s 486. However, Vancouver recorded 18 total shots to Seattle’s 13 and led 9-5 in shots on goal. The Whitecaps also had the stronger expected-goals figure, 2.2 to 1.17, helping explain why the possession advantage did not translate into a closer scoreline.

Both teams received one yellow card in the 45th minute: Caicedo for Vancouver and Jesús Ferreira for Seattle. Neither side received a red card.

Whitecaps strengthen Western Conference lead

After the result, Vancouver remain #1 in the Western Conference with 61 points from 33 games, while Seattle are #9 with 43 points from 33 games. Vancouver are 18 points ahead of Seattle. White was the standout performer, earning a 9.4 rating, scoring 2 goals and registering 4 shots on target.
